North Korea

We are encouraging everyone to pray for the nation of North Korea at the moment. There has been considerable tension on the Korean Peninsular recently, especially between the North Korean Government and the United States of America Government. Below are some links which will give helpful information for prayer. If you would like to read more about life in North Korea the book 'Nothing to Envy' by Barbara Demick makes for interesting reading. It was the winner of the BBC Samuel Johnson Prize in 2010.

Wikipedia North Korea This online encyclopedia gives useful background information on North Korea.

BMS World Mission Project Cyrus This initiative encourages people to pray for the country of North Korea.

BUGB Mission is a fund established by the Baptist Union of Great Britain to support work in and through the Union that seeks to introduce people to Jesus. It provides grants to Association, Churches and Chaplains to help in this work. Currently Hampton Baptist Church receives a grant to help support its minister. Vibrant is an organisation seeking to help churches in the U.K. and in Uganda understand how children can have a full and fruitful relationship with God from a very young age. It was started by Nick Plumbley one of our Church Members about 11 years ago. Currently they visit Uganda every year to train church leaders and lead children's missions. If you would like more information please email us.

Vibrant's partner organisation in Uganda is the Girchuru Jeremy Evangelistic Trust (GJET) founded and run by Girchuru Jeremy. They have many churches in Uganda, Kenya, India and elsewhere. They have worked each year in helping to facilitate the work of Vibrant and now adopt the Vibrant teaching in their children's work.

Smiles Foundation is a charity working in Romanian, started by the father of one of our Church Members. Although we don't formally support them regularly as a Church we have had them visit us and people do receive their newsletters and support them individually. They are doing some amazing work and helping to change the lives of lots of people. Please visit their website for more information.

For a number of years we have been collecting tools sewing machings, bicycles etc and passing them on to Tools with a Mission (TWAM). They refurbish them all and send them off to countries where they help people to begin a livelihood. If you have anything that TWAM need (click on the heading to visit their website and see) we will happily take it from you and forward it to them.

Embracing Age is a new faith inspired charity dedicated to improving the lives of older people in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Over the last year we have helped them raise awareness and finances. Furthermore we have hosted a day long seminar to encourage the work of local churches to the potential for ministry in this area.
